Conditions
Arthritis
There are two main classifications which are osteoarthritis and auto-immune arthritis eg. rheumatoid arthritis
The causes of osteoarthritis are:
- idiopathic, not clearly understood
- altered biomchanics eg. leg length discrepancy
- immobilization which reduces circulation to the joint
- trauma, accident, fracture or overuse/minor repetitive stress (occupational)
- pathology such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis
Arthritis affects the joint space by showing degenerative changes in the synovial tissue, cartilage and eventually the bones thicken and weaken. The thickened bone can press on nerve roots located close by and all these factors can:
- cause pain and inflammation
- muscle spasm, nerve irritation
- loss of joint movement
If you suspect you have arthritis, you should see your Doctor. Massage, Chiropractic and Acupuncture may help you with these symptoms in conjunction with treatment prescribed from your Doctor.
We want to help you to slow down the effects of arthritis and keep you active.
Neck & Back Pain
Neck and back pain are a common complaint and may be caused by a number of factors:
- trauma (motor vehicle, falls, sports injuries)
- muscle imbalances
- postural dysfunction (head forward posture)
- degenerative changes (disc herniation, ostoarthritis)
- nerve irritation (sciatica, piriformis syndrome)
- muscle trigger points
- imbalances in the bones of the pelvis
- joint irritation or inflammation
Other factors are biomechanical changes and our work at the computer which requires prolonged sitting.
Improving the ergonomics of the office chair, computer height and mouse set up will help to reduce stresses on the lumbar discs and neck and head position.
At Rebound our practitioners assess your spine, provide treatment, education and exercise to relieve the symptoms and prevent re-injury.
Stress and Anxiety
There is an increased interest in the role that stress plays in the development of disease. Stress can cause health problems or make then worse. As the body tries to adapt, physical symptoms occur. The areas of the body affected by stressors are:
- heart (hypertension, heart disease)
- kidney (adrenals increase cortisol)
- gastrointestinal tract (problems with digestion, weight loss or gain)
- brain and nervous system (can affect muscles, breathing, depression)
- immune system (skin, eczema, decrease immunity to viruses, allergies)
- TMD (jaw clenching or grinding)
- insomnia
If you identify with these symptoms, we suggest you speak to your Doctor for more information.

Headaches
Headaches can range from a serious disease to a minor complaint. It is important for your therapist to be alert for the signs that can trigger headaches.
Headaches are divided into primary and secondary conditions.
- Primary headaches are those in which the headache is the condition, such as muscle tension headache or migraine.
- Secondary headaches are a result of an underlying problem such as hypertension, head trauma, hormonal changes or jaw dysfunction.
It is important to note that a person may suffer from more than one category of headache at one time.
Your Doctor should be notified if you are experiencing headaches. At Rebound we can work in conjunction with your Doctor's treatment plan.
We assess the potential causes of headaches and provide drug-free solutions and treatment.
Menopause or Fertility
Hormonal imbalances may affect menopause and fertility.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), we look at the whole body and the complete picture of symptoms the person is exhibiting.
For example in TCM, the hormonal system of women and men is controlled mostly by the Liver system. The Liver system is the one most effected by stress, emotion, state of mind and diet.
In TCM, when we help people in regulating hormones or achieving conception, we bring back to balance all the systems in the body, using acupuncture and herbs. This provides the body the opportunity to have optimal hormonal function.
The are many scientific studies today that substantiate TCM as one of the best support therapies women and men can do in order to achieve natural conception, pregnancy and birth.
